What is Germination?
-The development of a plant from a dormant seed
-This is not the same as emergence which is when the sprout breaks the soil.
-So a seed can germinate but not emerge
The Germination Process Requirements
Seed- Quality genetics should be obtained from a known and trusted source
Water- Soaking seeds can speed up water infiltration, but is not required.
Temperature- More is not better, the goal is to maintain 78F-82F to increase the odds of a successful germination.
Air- Seeds need to breath (especially oxygen) so over soaking them will literally suffocate them
What is Seed Scarification?
Scarification- weakening the seed coat is increase water infiltration to improve germination rates.
