So you gotten your seeds and gear together and you’re ready to start. They say the first steps are the most important, and here we are. Chapter one, so to speak. There are several ways to go about germination, described here are the three most popular techniques.

The Paper Towel Method: This is a simple and reliable method for germinating cannabis seeds. Moisten a paper towel (or cotton pad) and place the seeds on top. Cover the seeds with another damp paper towel (or cotton pad) and place them in a warm location. Cover with plastic to reduce evaporation, but allow air flow. Keep the paper towels moist but not waterlogged. Once the seeds have germinated, transfer them to your preferred growing medium.

The Soak Method: This method is not as popular as the paper towel method, but is still reliable for some. The seeds are placed in a glass with room temperature water and place the seeds in the water. Keep the water at a consistent level and wait for the seeds to germinate. If the seeds continue to float after 12 hours, they are likely no good. Seeds that have sunk should be watched carefully for the root tip to emerge, within 36 hours. Once that happens, the seeds have germinated, move them to your choice of growing medium. If no tip emerges, the seeds may be too old.

The Soil Method: This method involves planting the seeds directly in soil or another growing medium. Fill your containers with soil and moisten the soil with water. Place one seed in each container, about a quarter inch deep. Cover the seeds with soil and gently press down to secure them in place. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Most seeds will have germinated witin about 3 days, continue to care for them according to the specific needs of your cannabis strain.

Most germination failures stem from too much care, to much interaction with the seed and immature plant. Tend to it gently and let it sprout and start growing. A light breeze from a nearby fan will help stengthen young plants.
