A Modesto man who opened the city’s first medical marijuana dispensary is back home after spending nearly 15 years in prison. The federal government says Luke Scarmazzo was convicted of selling to customers without a prescription. Scarmazzo still disputes the claim. “I love this city,” Scarmazzo said while sitting in the backyard of his parents’ Modesto home. “I was born and raised here. The people are one of a kind.” Scarmazzo never thought he’d live anywhere else, but he was gone for almost two decades.
