A bill to legalize recreational marijuana sales in 2022 has been continued to next year. On a 5-3 party-line vote, the subcommittee defeated the measure from Sen. Adam Ebbin (D – Fairfax) that had cleared the Democrat-controlled Senate earlier this month. Republicans said they wanted more time to review how sales would work.

Bill to legalize marijuana for recreational use advances in Maryland House
More than 145 million Americans now live in a state that has legalized marijuana. However, the drug is still classified as an illegal drug at the federal level, alongside cocaine and heroin. Many veterans who use cannabis say federal laws have impacted their ability to get proper treatment at VA health centers.
State Representative Rachel Roberts and state Senators Morgan McGarvey and David Yates announced the “L.E.T.T.’s GROW” bill on Thursday. The bill would legalize “cannabis for responsible adult use.”
In 2020, the House passed a bill legalizing marijuana but the measure stalled in the Senate.
A lawmaker is working on a bill in the legislature and organizers are collecting signatures for a ballot initiative. Both hope to get the green light this year.
