Edible marijuana overdoses in children Increase in reported cases

New poison control research revealed the number of kids who accidentally ate marijuana-laced candy has jumped dramatically in the last five years.

In Michigan, the number of children ages 0-5 who had adverse reactions after marijuana edibles climbed from 25 in 2018 to 188 in 2022.

“We’ve been seeing more unintentional accidents with children who are young compared to intentional dosing with teens and teenagers,” John Spitzer Phd, Pediatrician with Bronson Primary Care Partners said.

Across the U.S., over 7,000 cases of kids younger than six were reported to poison control centers in the past five years, jumping from 200 to more than 3,000 a year.
