Following Tuesday’s midterms, Democrats have won both the House and Senate and will take control in January. Rep. Dina Titus, co-chair of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, is pushing to keep working on banking access, federal tax treatment, veterans’ medical access and marijuana’s federal classification.
The unexpected voice is Roger Stone, a longtime Republican operative and Trump advisor. He told Marijuana Moment he would urge Trump to sign reform passed by the new Congress, whether that’s decriminalization at a minimum or removing marijuana from the federal schedules entirely. Stone isn’t speaking for the White House. Newly elected Texas Sen. James Talarico is also talking about working with Trump on legalization and clearing past records.
The video explains why rescheduling and legalization aren’t the same thing, why Democrats failed to deliver the last time they controlled Congress and the White House, and what a bill would need to include to win bipartisan support. It also covers the open fights over expungement, business rules and the scope of legalization.
